3PAR solution becomes part of HP
29 October 2010
3PAR offers utility storage solutions which have been designed from the ground up to support server virtualisation, and an agile and efficient utility computing infrastructure. The product set is the only Enterprise Storage Platform that has been purpose built to support virtualised Datacentres, overcoming the limitations of traditional monolithic and modular arrays by delivering agility, scalability, high performance and efficiency along with cost-effectiveness.
“Cloud computing has now become a reality. The tools are available to deliver agile environments that meet business needs on demand and there is now a strong focus on moving towards delivering the private cloud. As the leading providers of next generation storage, the 3PAR offering complements and expands HP’s enterprise storage portfolio, allowing the IT giant to accelerate its converged infrastructure strategy and move strongly into the cloud-ready storage market,” says Rid Trickey, CTO of SYSDBA.
SYSDBA has been the sole supplier of 3PAR solutions in South Africa for the past three years and will continue to deliver these products in the country.
Having built up an established and reliable route to market for the products as well as a sound understanding of how different components integrate with 3PAR, the company is perfectly positioned to make thin provisioning and virtualised storage work as part of the core infrastructure design of any enterprise.
“HP is a market leader in IT infrastructure, with a very powerful brand name and a worldwide support and sales organisation, which will take the 3PAR offering to a new level of awareness both locally and internationally. This will invariably translate to a huge increase in new deployments of 3PAR arrays into the local market” says Chris Bamber, MD of SYSDBA. “The 3PAR offering will strengthen HP’s converged infrastructure offering, allowing the company to deliver every aspect of a converged environment to support cloud computing, from blade servers through to networking, software and now storage.”
“We see the acquisition of 3PAR as a great opportunity for SYSDBA as it will allow us access to a wider market through the strong brand equity of HP, which will increase the visibility and uptake of the product in the Southern African market. It will also enable us to strengthen our product and service offerings to our customer base and increase the market share of 3PAR in South Africa,” Bamber concludes.
HP completed the acquisition of this leading-edge solution on 27 September 2010 for an enterprise value of $2.35 billion, or $33 per share.
